Even though you take good care of your lures and you let them dry after every trip, you'll notice metal lures will eventually get dull. Copper-colored and brass-colored spinnerblades will get darker and will hardly shine anymore after a while, nickel-colored spoons and spinnerblades may get stained and won't shine either. Even though I love such blades because of their reduced flash, I can understand that you may want these lures to look as good as new again. That's why we decided to let you in on a secret that has been used for a long time and by many anglers. I'm talking about toothpasting your lure!

What do you need for this small operation? An old toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste which contains fluoride and a bit of water.

The fluoride is important because this removes the stains more easely than a different type of toothpaste. All you do now is add a bit of toothpaste on your brush and stick it in the water to get it wet. Just start brushing the metal lure, using a circular motion is better to remove all the dirt.

After a minute or two, rinse the lure with some water, removing all the toothpaste. After you dry it with a towel, you should see that the dirt has come off. That's why I advise you use an old towel or a rag, otherwise I'll be getting angry e-mails from anglers' wifes!! Good luck!

And the spoon is clean and shiny again.
