Why built your own skirts? The main advantage is that you can determine the lenght and size of your skirt. And you can make all possible colorcombinations aswell. It is very simple and very practicle.
Neccassery Items
- ‘Living rubber’ (in this example the colors ‘dark green’ and ‘black’ are used)
- The ‘skirtfactory’ including the table-vise
- A skirtband (skirtcolar)
- A pair of scissors
Step 1
Cutoff a piece of ‘living rubber’. Cut about 1 cm more then the skirts lenght should be. For example, if you need a skirts of 15 cm cutoff a piece o 16 cm. Cut the piece a bit in at the middle of the rubber and tear it in half.
Step 2
In this example I'm making a skirt of 12,5 cm and use three halve strips.
Take the ‘skirtfactory’ and open the skirtband. (see photo)
Step 3
Put the three strips on top of eachother and slide them through the open skirtband. Make sure the skirtband is positioned at 3/5 of the total lenght of the skirt. Close the skirtband and you can clearly see the skirt appearing.
Step 4
Vice the 'skirtfactory’ with it's 'legs'in the table-vise. (see photo) Pull on one of the strips and while it is on high tension cut it at 0,5 cm fron the end.
Step 5
Do this for all six strips and a fine skirt appears, that can be used for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, jigheads and for decorating spinners aswell.
Example
The skirt made in this example mounted on a 0,5 oz. spinnerbait.
Use this size skirt (12,5 cm) for your small lures. For bigger lures use bigger and larger skirts. Use 4 to 5 strips. And use a large skirtbands.
