There are a number of reasons for why I decided to build my own spinners.
  1. There is very little choice in tackle shops for unweighted spinners.
  2. The low cost of making one (if you would happen to loose one, it's no big deal nor a big expense)
  3. It's easy and fun to do.
And besides that, fishing with these spinners and catching on them gives me a lot more satisfaction than catching a pike on a factory made spinner. In what follows I will explain how I make my spinners by showing you a lot of pictures.

Necessary Items

In pictures two I show in a few steps how to twist an eye to a piece of stainless steel wire. Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers and a pair of round-nosed pliers for this.

The third picture shows you how to make a clevise yourself from copper wire. I took a picture of the four stages in the building process:

Afb.1 Cut a piece of the inner wire in an electricity wire and cut it off at a length of 15mm.
Afb.2 Crush both ends to a flat piece with a pair of combination pliers.
Afb.3 Drill a hole through both flattened ends with the 1mm diameter drill bit.
Afb.4 Bend the clevise into shape using a pair of round-nosed pliers.

Picture no 4 contains some of the components which I use to assemble the spinners.

In the next few pictures I will show you some of my handmade spinners. When I add the treble hook to the spinner, I slide a piece of plastic tubing over the shaft. This has a big advantage. The treble hook is in one line with the spinner which automatically makes for less missed pike.

As you have been able to read, it is very easy to make your own spinners with a minimum on expenses. These are quite well catching baits, all custom made to your own likings.
