If you want to decorate your own spinner or spinnerbait with bucktail, you can use the following materials : tying thread and bobbin holder, a pair of scissors, lacquer, different colors of bucktail and marabou. A tying-vice is not in the picture but very handy. You can also use a regular vice, but that's more difficult in use.

In this picture you can see an example of a frame onto which you can tie bucktail. Just use your imagination. Next time I'll send some more pictures including an explanation on how to build them.

Secure the tube at the spot where you are going to tie your bucktail on with tying thread, by wrapping it from the left to the right and back again. Tie a piece of marabou onto the tube with a few wraps of tying thread and continue with the next piece. When you do this against a bead or an egg-shaped leadweight the marabou flares, which will improve the action. Afterwards make sure that all the marabou has been tied tightly. Make sure to use strong tying thread so it won't break off when wrapping the tying thread tightly around the tube. But it mustn't be too thick, to ensure a beautiful result. After tying off the whole with a few knots, lacquer the wrappings.

Tie in a small bundle of bucktail hair, when you like it add some 'flashy' material. Spread the bucktail around the tube, in a way there is bucktail on top of the tube as well as below the tube. First make three loose wraps, then tighten them. Then finish the remaining wrappings. Romove all of the excessive bucktail hair with a pair of scissors. Again laquer the wrappings. Then start tying the next bundle.

Make sure you lacquer the wrappings good between two tied bundles of bucktail hair. Finsh at approximately 1 cm of the edge of the tube.

Now start tying in the saddle hackles. These have a nice wavy action to the spinner or spinnerbait. Tie one hackle feather with a few wraps of tying thread. Then continue in the way for the next hackle feather. And so on ... A vice with a rotating head comes in very handy while doing this. Tie all hackles nice and thight and wrap a nice tapered head. Secure the tying thread with some halve knots. Lacquer the head and let it dry. After drying the spinner or spinnerbait is ready for use.
