The Brammer

The Brammer is a jerkbait made by Rob Kraaijeveld, a Dutch lurebuilder who has designed a lot of well-known jerkbaits. They are famous abroad as well, like for instance in Sweden. The Brammer is a floating, diving hybrid style jerkbait with a length of 5.5" and a weight of 55g (approximately 2oz). This jerkbait, like the Booner designed by André Koehoorn and Marco Dol, is made in a mold from handpoured epoxy.

The Brammer jerkbait has a nice, wide profile. You might think differently when you look at it from the side, but this lure is about 28mm wide at the head and has a slim, flattened tail.

The Brammer barely floats when you fit it with 2/0 eagle claw trebles. Because of the weight and the low resistance underwater, you can easily fish it on a relatively light jerkbait rod. If you retrieve it with long sweeps of the rod tip (approximately 40-50cm), it dives relatively fast to a depth of 3-4 feet. Make sure you don't overdo it on the pull-speed, because if you pull too hard the Brammer will dive only a little, then turns on its side and heads back for the surface. It's a strange action and maybe it has some value for shallow water presentations.

If you retrieve it with short pulls of 20-30cm in combination with a short pause after each pull, you achieve a nice wobbling action. Fished in this manner, it will run a lot shallower. The maximum depth that you can get out of it would be 40-50cm. If you don't add a pause after each pull, the wobble is a lot more violent.

If you would simply cast and retrieve the Brammer at a constant speed, you would achieve a wobbling action as well, but the Brammer will regularly turn on its side and head for the surface. This is an attractive action that imitates a dying fish trying to get down deeper to escape the bite-happy predatory fish that are trying to eat it!

So, this concludes the description of the action. The Brammer has a tough epoxy lacquer finish and the color pattern shown in this picture, has proven to be very effective for clear water presentations. Glitter color patterns are one of Rob's specialties!

This jerkbait is a must-have for larger waters!

Success fishing!
