This is my jerkbait named the JACKO. It's a jerkbait that can be built as a straight model as well as a jointed model.
Drawing 1: first saw out the form from a piece of hardwood of 15 or 16 mm thick. Drill the holes of 8 mm diameter in the positions shown in the drawing. Also drill the holes for the screw-eyes. After that, sand or file all sides nice and round.
Drawing 2: If you want to build a jointed jerkbait, saw the jerkbait into two pieces and make the sawcut where the dotted line is shown.(see drawing 1).
Drill a hole of 1.5mm diameter in each halve of the jerkbait, at a distance of 3 mm from the sawcut and In the backside. Don't drill it all the way through, and drill it exactly in the middle. (see drawings 2 and 3 ) Then you saw a groove of approximately 2 mm in both parts of the jerkbait. Drill About 7 mm deep. File off the sides as shown in drawing 3, so that the back part can shake out better.
Drawing 4: Then you make a stainless steel plate of 1 mm thick with two holes of 1.5 mm diameter, you place the plate in the groove of 2 mm wide and secure it in the holes in the back of 1.5 mm with a piece of stainless steel wire. You seal up the holes at the top with liquid wood. Lead the jerkbait so that it will sink very slowly. It should sink slowly and rest on the treble hooks when it reaches the bottom. And it's very important that it sinks almost horizontally. The head may lean a bit forward, but not too much. You can also build it as a floater, but you will need to add a lip to it. Then you can fish it like a normal crankbait. And it can be used for trolling as well.
It's obvious that the JACKO is an allround jerkbait/crankbait. If you have any questions after reading this article, feel free to send me an email at J.vandemortel4@chello.nl.
